Scholarships

IFEC Scholarship Application deadline is March 15, 2024. Submit the actual application by Monday March 15, midnight, PST. In your cover email indicate if any materials will be sent later, such as official transcripts.  Unofficial transcripts can be sent with application.

The International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC) awards scholarships annually to students with experience and/or education in the combination of food/ foodservice and the communication arts.

Awards are intended to assist students planning to pursue careers as writers, editors, public relations practitioners, marketing communicators and similar within the food/ foodservice industries. This is a very specific niche. Students with questions about qualifications are encouraged to contact IFEC directly.

Students in good standing in a degree-granting program of a post-secondary institution whose studies and work experience combine the fields of food/ foodservice and the communication arts are considered eligible.

Awards range in amounts of from $1,500 – $6,000 and are dispersed in July of the award year.

The deadline for submitting an application is midnight PST on March 15th.

Student Scholarship FAQs

Eligibility

A combination of your work experience and education should indicate that you are preparing for a career in writing or public relations within the foodservice or food and beverage industry. This is a key requirement. You must be a full-time college student enrolled as of March 15, 2024, working toward an associate’s, bachelor’s or master’s degree. Enrollment must be in an accredited post-secondary educational institution in the U.S. Expected graduation date must be no earlier than January 1, 2025. You should have a strong academic record, good character references and demonstrate financial need.

Examples of careers IFEC wishes to encourage through its scholarships:

Journalist, public relations practitioner, food photographer, food stylist, and marketing communications specialist, all of them working within the foodservice or food industry.

Examples of studies and work experiences considered applicable:

[ ] Food and foodservice studies: Culinary arts; hotel, restaurant and institutional management; hospitality management, dietetics, nutrition, food science and technology, and related[ ] Communications: Journalism, public relations, mass communication, English, broadcast journalism, marketing, photography, graphic arts, and related[ ] Work experience: Restaurants; food or beverage companies and suppliers; print, broadcast and electronic media; public relations, advertising, and marketing communications

Application requirements:

[ ] Only completed application forms emailed to ifec@ifeconline.com will be considered.[ ] A transcript of your current or last year of study must accompany your application.[ ] Two letters of recommendation from a supervisor, teacher, advisor or other food/foodservice or communications professional familiar with your skills must be included with your application.[ ] Essay questions may be answered on a separate page.[ ] Applications must be emailed by midnight PST March 15, 2024. The application, essays, letters of recommendations and transcript should be combined into one PDF document.

 

Awards selection

The number and amounts may vary. In recent years, four to six awards in amounts of $1,500 to $6,000 have been granted. A committee made up of members of the International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC) reviews the applications and selects the winners. Scholarship recipients are notified by mid-July.
